Gracing our little red dot from 17th to 20th March, Park Jung Min wants to tell all TripleS out there that you’re NOT ALONE. To be honest, once you’ve seen this charismatic guy and experienced his fan service, it’s almost hard for one to deny that fact that he is indeed PARK SERVICE since he is never stingy with his smiles, waves and laughter. Not forgetting that he will constantly throw in random Mandarin and English phrases, making his press conference, fansign and showcase absolutely interactive.
And one thing for sure, it’s impossible for one to not fall for Park Jung Min once you’ve met him up-close and personal.
Upon entering the press conference venue with a radiant smile, Park Jung Min’s outgoing personality became the immediate spotlight as he addressed the crowd in Korean and Mandarin.
Impression of fans in Singapore
Since this was Park Jung Min’s first visit to Singapore, seeing so many fans at the airport undoubtedly made him feel fuzzy and warm at heart and unquestioningly welcome. When answering this question, he even tried to flaunt his Mandarin by saying that Singapore is very “熱” (warm) and that the fans were very “熱情” (passionate).
With regards to doing album promotions in Asia without his fellow SS501 band members, Park Jung Min mentioned that he is someone that can adapt to new environment very well and that he is quite an adaptable person. Thus even though it’s his first time promoting a solo album, he’s adapted to this new situation very well and has gotten used to it.
Changes since debuting as a solo artiste
He’s actually happy that he’s able to show more of Park Jung Min to his fans. He feels that it voices down to developing himself as a solo artiste, and that he’ll continue to work hard so that fans will see the multi-facets of Park Jung Min.
From Sexy Charisma to a Warm Hearted Guy
TripleS should be very familiar that Sexy Charisma is the nickname of Jung Min whenever he describes himself in SS501. Now that he has gone solo, what’s his biggest appeal?
Jung Min personally feels that he’s gotten the nickname sexy charisma based on his looks. Now that he’s gone solo, he hopes and wishes to be known as a warm-hearted guy whom girls would like to hug. With such a response, I’m sure all TripleS out there will be looking forward to a huggable Jung Min now.
Transition from Idol to singer-songwriter
Having written the lyrics of all three songs in his album, Not Alone, Jung Min’s was actually just thinking with regards to how to best present himself through this album and he felt that through the writing of his own songs, it would be the most direct way in allowing him to share his inner most feelings and aspirations with his fans. He has been trying to develop himself as not just as an idol-singer but as a songwriter as well. In addition, he also strives to be a multi-entertainer that would act as well. Do look forward and meanwhile continue to give Jung Min your utmost support as he works towards his aim.
I guess many would be curious as to what inspired him to write the lyrics for Not Alone, Do You Know and Everyday is Christmas. For Jung Min, he feels that it’s hard to say where exactly he got his inspiration from, since usually, it would be the melody of the song itself that will inspire him. He will thus listen to the song and let his imagination run and roam free as he pens down the lyrics.
The slick dance moves in his music video, Not Alone, caught the attention of many and in response to this, Jung Min mentioned that the dance moves are indeed theatrically-inspired because his dance choreographers come from a theatre and musical background. In addition, some of his dancers used to act in musicals too. Thus more or less, there is this theatrical element in his performances. He’s also glad and happy that some people think that his dance moves for Not Alone were cool.
He confessed that he in actual fact didn’t contribute much to the album image concept as he could rely on all he professionals working with him. However, he did contribute to just some ideas through the playing of the role of a “chief director” in his MV Not Alone.
*Just something cute that I want to share. After the translator translates, he parrots after her “just some idea” in English with an expression that received woahs and screams from the fans present that day. Jung Min is indeed a mood maker! ^^*
He once worked with Taiwanese singer-songwriter William Wei Li-An 韋禮安 (but he is better known as “Weibird”) on the song 有沒有 and he’s thinking of collaborating with him again. Jung Min even mentioned that he’s already requested a song from William. I guess we can look forward to Jung Min singing more Chinese songs from now on.
Jung Min feels that it’s important to visit countries that have his fans and countries that don’t have his fans. Promotional activities in countries that have his fans are important as it is a way of appreciation to those that have supported him thus far. On the other hand, it is also essential to head to countries where his popularity aren’t that high yet with the intention that he can introduce and promote himself so that more people will know Park Jung Min.
Reports mentioned that he’s lost 12kg and suffered sleepless nights because of the album, but Jung Min announced that he’s coping well now because he recently measured himself and he’s gained back some weight. So it’s not really 12kg, but more like 10kg. It was also true that he couldn’t really sleep well when he was losing weight. However, he did reveal that he don’t usually sleep well when he is on tour in other countries as well. As a result, he’s been trying to get enough sleep so as it won’t affect his promotional tour.
*Another random tidbit that I want to share. While answering, Jung Min randomly asked whether the audience understood since while he was explaining, a lot were nodding their heads. And he asked “a little bit?”, which made the audience roared in laughter.*
His Power Toes
On a Korean Variety program, he displayed an incredible talent – walking on/with his toes – which awed many. With regards to this, Jung Min’s first response was a resounding HAHAHAHAHA and 不行 in response that he can’t perform this now. He confessed that he actually thought that everyone could do that and it was normal. When the reporter replied that she can’t, Jung Min, in his usual playful self said “我想看” (I want to see) and “you can do it too! 加油”.
He also mentioned that he’s constantly on the lookout for new talents. I guess all of us can look forward as he shock us with another hidden talent of his.
Biggest Challenge in learning Mandarin
He’s been learning Mandarin for his promotional tour in Asia and the biggest challenge for him was the pronunciation when it comes to the four tones in the Mandarin language. Sometimes when people speak to him, it seems as though they are scolding him, even though it may not even mean anything unkind. He thus feels a little intimidated and insecure at times, but people around him have been really helpful. He makes it a point to ask more questions so that he can master the language faster too.
After he replied, he cutely said “好怕” (very scared), receiving another round of laughter. He even ‘betrayed’ his mandarin teacher by saying “我的老師是那位。黑色的。” (My Mandarin teacher is the one over there. The one in Black.)
Having flair in languages, he thinks he’s quite fluent in Korean and Japanese, but he still needs to work hard on Mandarin and English. As a result, if he manages to master the two language, he may want to learn Spanish or French.
He hopes that he will have a successful album promotional tour and that he will achieve all that he wishes for in 2011.
Confessing to a Girl
He shyly smiles and he said that he will try to talk to the girl a lot. After his reply was being translated, he comically responded that “he feels that it’s so strange to hear the answer in English.” And said “talk to the girl” in English and laughed. He also commented that he is easily attracted to a girl with a warm heart. He would thus talk to her and share his feelings with her. HEARD THAT?! Anyone interested in Park Jung Min should know very well what to do now! ^^
WOOHOO Moment of his Career
*This question made everyone laughed out loud because whenever Jung Min tried to say the word WOOHOO, he himself will end up laughing too.*
He personally felt that he had two such moments. The first was when SS501 debuted and had their first fan meeting. The second WOOHOO moment was when he recently performed his song as a solo artiste.
He plans to visit several Asian countries for his promotional tour (recently it’s been announced that he will be having two more fanmeets in Bangkok and HongKong). He also has plans to act in a Taiwanese drama. The script is still in progress and the scriptwriter promised him that he will write a role that is suitable for him. He hopes to show the new drama to his fans very soon and along with it, a new side of Park Jung Min.
Helping the Quake Victims in Japan
He has some plans in mind now but they have not been confirmed. He and his company have been considering how he would be able to help best. Of course he thinks that he should help because he has so many fans that have been supporting him in Japan and he thinks that he should contribute at this point in time.
- There was a point in time that he was thirsty and wanted to pour water to drink. However, being the gentlemen he always was, he poured water for the host and translator first, before pouring water into his own glass. The funniest part was when he drank the water and his expression was all telling as to how horrible it tasted.
- The parroting of every other word whenever someone asks a question or when the translator translates something. He will then pick out random words that he could catch and repeat them.
- The acting as though he understands the questions, but in actual fact don’t. He will go OOOH and AAAH as though he really understands. But after the question was asked, he will ask the translator “What did she ask?”
- The extra effort of acknowledging reporters. He would ask “你是誰?”(Who are you?) and will address you by your name with an extra 小(small/little) in front which added a level of intimacy and friendliness.
- Ever changing expressions – pouts, smiles, shocked. Honestly, there wasn’t a single moment whereby his face was expressionless, showing his playful side.
Throughout the whole press conference, it was evident that Park Jung Min was very comfortable as he tried to bridge the gap between him, the reporters and the fans through little caring actions, random Mandarin and English phrases and his never ending facial expressions.
A big thanks to Sony Music Singapore for the event invite! And not forgetting Ritz Carlton for hosting the Press Conference.
And here’s just more photos of Park Jung Min’s Fansign and Fanmeet/Showcase in Singapore! ^^
