We Are The Kpop World (KPN ’10)

23rd October 2010 was indeed a day to be remembered by all K-pop lovers in Singapore as 7 K-pop groups – SHINee, Big Bang, Girls Generation, ZE:A, Infinite, F.T. Island and The Boss – took the same stage at Expo Hall 2 that night for the Korean Pop Night Concert 2010.

After almost 2 months of anticipation following the sales of tickets, it was really not surprising when almost everyone present were equipped with light sticks, fans, hand banners and placards of the artists they support. It was honestly interesting to see how much the Hallyu Wave had swept Singapore over the years.

First to start off the Night was F.T Island with Bing Bing Bing (빙빙빙), hit songs like I Hope (바래), Love Love Love (사랑사랑사랑) and Flower Rock. The crowd definitely went crazy when the group’s lead singer, Hongki, walked down the extended stage and both him and drummer Minhwan took off their blazers showing off their trained biceps.

It was also immensely cute when Minhwan tried flaunting his drumming skills. It’s no wonder why F.T Island was chosen as the opening act – they did a great job in bringing up the atmosphere of the whole concert hall!

The next up in line was The Boss (D-NA), who was introduced by the MCs as the next Dong Bang Shin Ki. Just as expected, their rendition of Shining World (눈부신 세계) was simply breathtaking as their wonderful vocals shone in this ballad. The moment the song ended, the boys immediately regained their momentum and presented their two title songs Stumble Stumble (비틀비틀) and Admiring Boy (동경소년).

It’s not ZE:A’s first time in Singapore yet it was obvious that these 9 boys were excited to be back again. Kwanghee greeted the crowd enthusiastically and the rest were in smiles throughout their performance. The boys also mentioned that they are in midst of preparing for their comeback, so Ninjas, get ready to glue yourselves in front of the television or computers soon! The boys presented Mazeltov, All Day Long (하루종일) and Level Up (이별드립) and awed the crowd with their dance routines and great stage presence.

Infinite kicked start their performance with their debut track Come Back Again (다시 돌아와), showing off the signature ‘guitar’ dance, followed by Wings (날개) and recent hit She’s Back. Although they have only debuted this year, they lack no experience in entertaining the thousands of audience. Undeniably, it seemed like many K-pop lovers were taken by surprise by their performance and had a better impression of this rookie group, as many discussed on online social sites after the concert.

Shining SHINee

Despite the fact that SHINee was one member down as lead singer Jonghyun had an ankle injury, their performances were not discounted. Singapore Shawols showed their support to the remaining members by singing along to Jonghyun’s parts and fan chanted during their performances – Noona Nomu Yeppeo (누난 너무 예뻐) Remix, chart-toppers Ring Ding Dong, Lucifer and Hello. There were slight glitches throughout the performance, but it did not bring down the mood of the audience – in fact, the shouts and screams were brought to an all-time high. Impressively, the other members managed Jonghyun’s parts pretty well, especially Taemin who pulled off Jonghyun’s high note well in Lucifer. It was really spectacular and amazing as the whole concert hall danced along to their tracks.

During the short interview, leader Onew mentioned that he would love to eat Singapore’s famous Black Pepper Crab again, but due to the short stay in Singapore, it was impossible. Member Key also gave a short explanation to Jonghyun’s absence, despite him really wanting to. It seemed like the boys missed Singapore as much as local fans missed them.

Girls’ Generation’s performance was most probably the main highlight of the night. The crowd, both guys and girls, was totally uncontrollable the moment they appeared. Even the fan chants the SONEs shouted were startlingly loud!

They performed four of their title tracks, Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) (소원을말해봐), Oh!, Run Devil Run and Gee and you could practically hear the whole hall singing along with them, like a mass karaoke session. During their short interview, Jessica, Tiffany, Seohyun and Sooyoung addressed the crowd in decent English and that was all that was needed to drive the crowd into frenzy. Being the only female group performing that night, it was no wonder how they stole the limelight.

The final group was veteran group Big Bang, and to many’s delight they sang a total of seven songs – Gara Gara Go!! (ガラガラGO!!), Number 1, Haru Haru (하루 하루), Lies, Last Farewell, How Gee and Hands Up. Being one of Korea’s most popular boyband, it’s no doubt how easy it was for them to move the crowd to their beat.

Their performances were highly energetic as they ran around the runway, interacting with the audience. Their lively onstage personality made a lasting impact on much of the audience that night.

Wrapping up the great Night of performances, all seven groups reappeared on stage for the encore and sang together to Michael Jackson’s We are the World. It was really an epic moment as SHINee, Big Bang, Girls’ Generation, ZE:A, Infinite, F.T. Island and The Boss stood together in a row and sang together with the crowd. This was probably many Kpop fans’ dream – could this be Singapore’s answer to Korea’s Dream Concert?

Despite it being a 2.5 hour concert, there was not a moment whereby the crowd was not captivated. If the Hallyu Wave was to stay, it could potentially become one of the trademark concerts of the year every Kpop lover could look forward to yearly.

  2. To me, F.T.Island most probably had the best performance! It was a great choice to have them kick off the start of the concert. A pity I could not be at the venue personally to be immersed in the rocking atmosphere but based on their usual efforts and seen by the videos of Xclusive, they always perform and sing their hearts out.

Hongki is always good at keeping the atmosphere going and now that we have seen the members putting in more effort with regards to interaction with audience through their tiny actions, it touches the audiences’ hearts to be honest.

To be honest, why wouldn’t all groups put in their best for a performance for their supporters. They have done well and definitely left all audience with a memorable rare kpop night in Singapore. Probably because I personally like F.T.island’s genre of songs and have seen more of their performance, it is actually pleasant to see them being recognised and so hardworking, putting up the best performance they can everywhere. It is important to start the concert going and F.T.Island did it!

I’d love to receive ab F.T.Island photo, should I win this. Despite that, am glad kpop night was a success and congrats xclusive for its way to more upgrades and good coverage of kpop night and all other updates 🙂

  3. Who was the best act of the night and why

For me it was Dae guk nam ah ( The Boss )
They had just debuted this year and i was stunned by their amazing vocals and cool dance moves. The way the performed on stage was very professional.

Although they have very little fans in Singapore they still managed to make it crowd scream and after the concert they gained many more fans

They other groups were also great and i had a enjoyable night at the concert 😀 i want dae guk nam ah’s pictures

  5. Well, all the bands performed extremely well during KPOP Night Concert!
For me, Girls Generation was the best act of the night! Being the only girls during the concert, they really hyped it up and brought it on to a totally new level! They made both fanboys and fangirls scream non-stop at the top of their voices! Dancing professionally, singing with powerful vocals, it was no wonder they captivated our hearts. Pulling off well-known songs, engaging the fans, its was really an enjoyable stage. Could you deny that you did not enjoy these nine talents’ performance? Clad in hot sailor outfits, they really charmed us all, giving their best for the performance. Fans also sang along and cheered for them, camera flashes started going off, that was the best performance of the night. The one and only GIRLS GENERATION! 100% the best!
If i should happen to win, I would like a photo of Girl Generation *swoons* /dies.
    It was

  6. In KpopNightConcert, the best act will definitely be BIG BANG.
They performed 7songs & it was definitely a blast on Expo.
This is the first time they came Singapore. And with the first impressions, its gives us a wonderful & awesome night. Their singing that definitely hit all of the fans high up the way.
They makes us shocked with their performances. The one that left us memorable,
I guessed it’ll be BIG BANG with their powerful 7songs that hit Expo loud and clear.
We followed their beat & get so high. Impressive performances with powerful voices.
Makes us fall in love with them with blush. Omg, they looked definitely best on stage.
If i ever win, i would want SHINee Minho’s photo. Becos i didnt saw him. He’s my regret.

  7. SHINee.
They did not come as 5 but the 4 of them still managed to put up a good show despite jonghyun’s absence.
I really enjoyed myself when it was SHINee’s turn and i guess everyone did too because people started standing up on their chairs to cheer when it was SHINee’s turn!
I stood up too and fanchanted/cheered/screamed
I’ve never had enjoyed a concert this much before
I would want SHINee’s photo if i happen to win! ^^

  8. I would love to say all seven groups did marvelously well, but I have admit that Big Bang definitely took the fans, whether fangirls’, or fanboys’, hearts away. I am not only saying this because I’m a VIP but pertaining to the fact that the seven songs performed by the five boys were sung in perfect tune and their dances were in sync almost 100% of the time.
Their LIVE performance made a profound impression on all who were present that night, near or far away from the stage, and we should not forget to give credits to the fact that they took on the stage so well even though it was their first ever performance in Singapore.
So, if a choice has to be made on the best act of the night, it should go to Big Bang- without a doubt.

  9. SHinee!!! Nobody can beat Shinee so much screaming when during their turn to perform!!! Hello Hello I really like SHinee. Their “Hello” already captured my heart so thoroughly. Light-hearted song and handsome/awesome members! The perfect match! 🙂 Lucifer and Ring Ding Dong are really nice songs too. However, there are soooo much screaming and shouting that I couldn’t hear much from these 2 songs.

    Posted by Spring | November 2, 2010, 12:06 PM
  10. This is really no question to me because of my bias towards Infinite. The members are all absolutely talented and should be recognized more by the public. Infinite may seem like a mere rookie group but they shine like stars when up on stage. Their choreography is always in sync, which shows true passion towards performing. They always try to show their best and I don’t believe that everyone realize what they’re capable of. Their performances in the Singapore Kpop Night should prove their perfection. Their dance was flawless as usual and their song choices are great. They have such amazing stage presence and always put on a smile for their fans. I think they really owned the stage and was the best performance of the night.

    Posted by cherrio | November 3, 2010, 1:25 PM
  11. I went to the concert because of SNSD and so, no matter how talented the other goups are, SNSD was the best act of the night and the only girls group of the night! Bravo! ;D

    Posted by Krystal | November 3, 2010, 3:14 PM
  12. Best act of the night: Big Bang

It was Big Bang’s first visit to Singapore since their debut and it is no doubt one of the best memories of the kpoppers in Singapore. I believe many fans turned VIP that night after seeing their performance, including myself. Was not a big fan of Big Bang before that, merely listened to their songs and all. But on Korean Pop Night, they totally won me over with their stage performance and the way they conducted their performance. Needless to say, with their experience and all it was one of the best stage I have even been to.

    I would love a picture of G-Dragon 🙂

    Posted by Kylene | November 5, 2010, 1:40 AM
  13. Best act of the night: ZE:A

Even though majority of the people who attended the concert were not ZE:A fans, I’m sure that many of them had turned into fans of ZE:A as soon as they started performing. Even though people in Seating CAT 1 and 2 were not standing during their performance (everyone actually stood up on their chair when SHINee, SNSD and BB performed!! even though these people are practically already near the stage!), ZE:A performed on stage with every ounce of energy they had. Sweat was dripping from their foreheads and they were panting as if they were running a marathon. They were also very enthusiastic (especially Kwanghee)! Their dances are really tough and require a lot of effort especially their last song, Ibyeol Drip. However, they did their best hitting every beat of the song. I really admire Junyoung, the leader, he was the one who really gave his all in the end. Of course the rest were good too, following the steps of their leader. They were also very fashionable and regardless of whatever they wore, even those that were making it difficult for them to dance (like Minwoo’s big sweater(?) and Siwan’s long scarf thingy) they still worked it! I’m not saying that the other acts didn’t do well, but considering that ZE:A is a new boyband, they performed as great as the bands that have been in the music industry for a longer time.

Omg actually I’d love to get that picture of Hongki’s side profile. (HOTTTT!) But getting the picture of ZE:A(since i mentioned that ZE:A was the best act so i guess the prize would be their pix right?) isn’t bad at all. But I really wish there was a solo shot of Heechul!! xD He’s just so hot and his rap… is so sexy…. it kills.. Hehe well thanks for holding this contest, sure is fun to write a summary of the kpop night in my view hahaa

  14. the best act of the night would no doubt belong to bigbang. i mean like srsly is there any doubt about that?? come on, they sang 7 songs, they had the best outfits, imo, out of the 7 kpop bands that performed and OMG ACOUSTIC VERSION OF HARU HARU!!!!! these five boys really live up to their name and stand out from the rest of the groups. there is no doubt abt their talent like srsly ok. they are so osm ide………. lol. ok i really hope i win this contest and if i do, i’d really like a photo of seungri (har har) or any photo of bigbang would be fine too. kthxbai! bigbang rocked that night, oh-eh-ohhhhh! lmao

    Posted by seungri | November 6, 2010, 10:27 PM
  15. best performance of the night: shinee

it’s a tough fight for the three veterans(fti / bigbang / shinee) but i ended up choosing shinee cause i thought they had a ton of setbacks/challenges faced YET they managed to be professional and give their all. its a pity jonghyun wasnt around, or the atmosphere would have been even more awesome (&onew+key might have been even more hyper with their beloved member lol OT3) 😀 i was most proud of taemin who pulled off jonghyun’s part really well! i think its a blessing in disguise, that with jonghyun being injured, we actually got to see taemin going beyond his usual vocals so it was great!

i would really love a cute/hot looking picture of diva key /& onew leader! thankyou!

    Posted by anaira | November 6, 2010, 10:27 PM
  16. Definitely dae guk nam ah for me ! They did not sing many songs like Big bang nor did they make they crowd stand on their seats like Shinee, girls genreration or Big bang. However as their fan i felt really proud and happy that dae guk nam ah could pull off such a great performance. It was better then i expected it to be. Although they are just a rookie group and is not very famous in Singapore i could hear screams and cheers for them.

I want the picture of Dae guk nam ah. Ty

  17. INFINITE! they are a rookie group no doubt, but i felt they showed great enthusiasm and energy on stage! so proud of them. those around me who werent even infinite fans had praises for them, and i felt like a proud mother! 😀 i dont have much to describe about them cause i have poor limited vocabulary. BUT I REALLY LOOVE THEM & HOPE THEY WILL COME AGAIN!

i hope to win this and get a picture of myungsoo, my bias. dying to get a good hq picture cause i found none): kamsamnida!

  18. No doubt, Infinite. They just debuted in June yet they delivered such an awesome performance. Got everybody pumping up with their hit track “Come Back Again”. They might be new comers in the entertainment industry but they managed to wow us all! This was their first oversea activity so I’m really proud of them because they got to perform and stand on the same stage as their sunbaes! I’m really proud of these boys! They’ve been training really hard! They were really stunning and enthusiastic on the stage that night. They smiled, they performed, they delivered, they went all the way out, and that just impressed me. They rocked the stage as rookies. I’m sure they put in every effort and energy they had. They prolly gained much more fans after Kpop Night. They’re amazing, even though the crowd wasn’t really mad during their performance, I’m sure the crowd enjoyed every bit of their performance. Dashi Dorawa, dorawa! I can feel that Infinite put their heart, mind and soul into the performance, it made me feel so contented. It made me feel like as if the money spent was worth it. So I’ll like a picture of Infinite!<3 Thanks! 🙂

  19. the best act of the night has to be BIGBANG. they are the most experienced group out of all the 7, and it shows. they were so good on stage & they are just such great performers. i’m so happy to be able to see them live! they also gave alot of fan service, like squatting down to get closer to the mosh pit people.. and taeyang and TOP threw their towel towards their fans too right! how i wish i could be one of the lucky fans near the stage too! they also got the crowd so hyped up even though we’ve sat/stood through 6 other acts that night. so many people were singing along (at least where i was) & the atmosphere was so so good!! b to the i to the (g) bang bang! all the other acts were good too, but if i had to pick one, its definitely BIGBANG. they are so talented & they wrote so many of their own hit songs. all your photos are great! but i would love to have any of Big Bang’s photo.

    Thanks

  20. Best act of the night : The Boss (Dae Guk Nam Ah)

    Why?
Though they’ve just debuted this year, i think their performance was on par, or not better, than some of the other groups present. They give us varieties of song. Ballads and fast song. I was amazed at their powerful vocals. Not just one member but all the members have great vocals. I was the only one from my section screaming for them and doing their fanchants due to the lack of fans i guess. BUT, after their performance, i could hear people complementing them. Of course they can’t compete with those big groups like Big Bang and SNSD in terms of popularity but hey, their talents don’t fall short.

Since the question is asking for the best act and not the most popular act, this is my answer!

    Posted by Ani | November 8, 2010, 12:52 AM
  21. Just have to add more love for BIG BANG, they were the best. The act I had been waiting for and when they came out, they did NOT disappoint. GD was up the night before composing songs, and TOP was with him also. I expected all of them to be very tired but NOPE, they blew up the stage and got everybody going freaking crazy.

Of course I know the other groups were tired too but hey, my bias right? hahah okay individual reasons.

TOP – threw his towel into the crowd and was in total dork mode with fake drums and everything
GD – he sat down on the stage and was SOOO close to the fans and basically serenaded them
Seungri – he really looked down at the fans and encouraged everyone to “put their hands up!”
Daesung – was just a ray of sunshine with his famous super bright smile you cannot help but be all :DDD
Taeyang – was dancing crazily, freestyling here and there and to see his fluid moves in person was just, epic.

    BIG BANG COME BACCCKKK!!!!

  22. The Best act of the night is OBVIOUSLY So Nyuh Shi Dae/Girls Generation/Shujo Jidai! 😀 Reason: Being the only Female KPOP group , they still outshine all the others male group.
Besides even having such heavy schedule , they still did their best in everything to satisfied their fans! They really do know how to tease their fans as in they have done really well in bringing the fans to their songs all those cheering and fanchants have proven everything!! I was totally engrossed into their songs! And when introducing , they spoke in english which most of us understood and after the performance i really admire their singing and dancing ability! Especially Taeyeon , her vocal is simply the best of the best!Last but not least , they really show us their hardwork , sincerity and a most PERFECT performance that i have seen!
Photo that i would like to get : So Nyuh Shi Dae/Girls Generation/Shujo Jidai!

  23. The highlight of Korean Pop Night Concert was definitely Big Bang’s appearance on stage! They rocked the whole crowd beneath them with unbelievable but 7 songs in total, making us all scream our lungs out and cheer for them. There’s one moment when they finished a song and went backstage, then everyone started shouting ‘ENCORE! ENCORE!’ louder and louder, and the boys appeared once again on stage to perform for us. Truly incredible performances i dare to say! Not forgetting about fan-service, the boys took control of the stage area and WOWed each and every one of us in the concert hall. Waving the crown lightstick and singing & moving along with Big Bang’s songs had never been that fun before. It was truly an unforgettable and awesome night not to forget in my life. 🙂

i mean seriously, they did 7 friggin awesome songs! lol i will irritate my snsdfanboy friends with this statement XD but anyways! they were jumping and being all hyper on stage, it adds to the atmosphere yknow? the professional easy-going aura they had was sooo contagious!

  26. “Who was the best act of the night and why?”
All of the groups preformed wonderful on the stage. But if i have to choose the best act, it could be Ze:a and Infinite. To the why question, i would use a short and simple answer. Cause “I LOVE THEM” 8D
